A former member of the National Assembly, Farah Dagogo, has called on both the Federal and state governments to draw lessons from the Easter season by taking concrete steps to ease the suffering of Nigerians.
Dagogo, who represented Degema Bonny Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, made the appeal in his Easter message to Christians, urging reflection on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.
In a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Ibrahim Lawal, the former Rivers State governorship aspirant lamented that many Nigerians are only managing to survive due to harsh economic realities and persistent insecurity.
“Nigerians are enduring severe hardship, merely surviving instead of living meaningful and fulfilling lives, despite the country’s abundant natural resources,” he said.
He attributed the situation to unfavourable government policies, noting that citizens continue to grapple with challenges such as rising inflation, unemployment, increased electricity tariffs, and the high cost of living.
Dagogo stressed that a country as richly endowed as Nigeria should not subject its people to prolonged hardship, urging leaders to adopt people-centred policies that will improve living conditions.
According to him, Easter provides an opportunity for both leaders and citizens to embrace values such as sacrifice, unity, and collective progress.
“Easter is a sacred period to reflect on the life of Jesus Christ and recommit to moral renewal. It is also a time to care for one another and promote harmonious coexistence,” he added.
The former lawmaker also encouraged Nigerians to use the season to pray for the nation, especially as the country moves closer to another election cycle.
He expressed hope that the significance of Christ’s death and resurrection would usher in a new phase of peace, growth, and prosperity for the country, while urging leaders to be more responsive to the needs of the people.
