Signing for Everton was a great moment, says Yakubu Aiyegbeni

Everton's Ayegbeni Yakubu celebrates after scoring the opening goal of the game on his debut during the Barclays Premier League match at the Reebok Stadium, Bolton.

Former Nigerian striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, has described his move to Everton as a defining moment in his career.

Aiyegbeni, famously known as “The Yak,” netted 33 goals in 107 appearances for the Toffees across all competitions between 2007 and 2011.

He scored 25 Premier League goals, establishing himself as a formidable presence at Goodison Park.

Reflecting on his time at the club in an interview with Everton’s official website, Aiyegbeni revealed that he considers Everton the place where he played his best football.

“The welcome from the fans meant so much to me. I was with my daughter, and for her to see the fans and see that they still love me is something I will never forget,” he said.

“It’s so lovely to see the people remember the good things I did for the Club. Signing for Everton was a great moment,” he added. “I fell in love from day one. It’s a special club. We call it the ‘People’s Club’. The fans are so friendly. The way they welcomed me was so special.

“Even now, I still support them. I just love the place. Goodison Park back then – we made memories. The Club is always special to me. I think I played my best football here. Coming all the way from Boro, scoring goals and playing in Europe – it was a great atmosphere, and they’re great memories.”
