Chelsea report record £262.4m pre-tax loss

Chelsea has reported pre-tax losses of £262.4 million in its latest financial results, marking a record high in the Premier League era, the club announced Wednesday, according to sportsnet.ca.

The London club, owned by U.S. private equity investors, attributed the losses partly to “increased operating costs” in 2024-25 compared to the previous year.

The previous record for pre-tax losses in the Premier League was held by Manchester City, which posted £197.5 million in 2010-11, Britain’s Press Association reported.

For the year ending June 30, 2025, Chelsea recorded revenue of £490.9 million, the second-highest in the club’s history, boosted in part by earnings from its title-winning run at the Club World Cup.

Despite the record losses, Chelsea was deemed compliant with the Premier League’s financial rules for the three-year period ending 2024-25.

The regulations allow clubs to incur up to £105 million in losses over that block, excluding spending on areas such as infrastructure, youth development, and women’s football, which are not counted in the league’s assessment of losses.
