Petit slams Chelsea’s Rosenior over touchline note-taking tactics

France legend, Emmanuel Petit, has criticized Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior for his habit of passing written notes to players during matches.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Petit said he found the approach embarrassing and suggested it undermines the manager’s authority on the touchline.

“The way he’s acting, his body language on the bench, the way he’s always trying to write things down on the paper then giving it to his players, I mean… come on.

“They (the players) don’t get it, it was the case 20 years ago as well, we don’t get it so don’t do that, we’re not stupid, we’re not kids so just try to behave in the right way.

“I don’t know if you’ve seen the image in the last game where they lost 3-0 to Everton, I saw that game and after the third goal he tries to make a substitution and he writes something down.

“He turned very quickly to his players who were about to come on the pitch and shown him something on a piece of paper but if you have a quick look at the player behind him, the way they look at the manager tells me a lot.”

Petit referenced Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat to Everton, pointing to an incident where Rosenior attempted to communicate instructions via a written note during a substitution.

He argued that such gestures send the wrong message and do not reflect effective leadership on the sidelines.
