Serie A: Juventus, Sassuolo play 1-1 draw

Juventus missed a golden opportunity to move into the Serie A top four after being held to a 1-1 draw by Sassuolo, with Manuel Locatelli seeing a late penalty saved.

Heading into the clash at the Allianz Stadium, Juventus had been in strong form on home soil, winning five of their previous seven matches across all competitions.

That momentum showed early on, as the hosts took control and struck within the opening 15 minutes. A long ball from Mattia Perin sparked a swift counterattack, with Francisco Conceicao driving forward before setting up Kenan Yildiz, who calmly finished into the bottom corner.

Juventus continued to press for a second, with Yildiz forcing a fine save from Arijanet Muric, while at the other end, Andrea Pinamonti squandered a chance to equalise, heading wide from close range.

Pierre Kalulu also came close before the break but failed to hit the target after another impressive move.

Sassuolo emerged with greater purpose in the second half and found their breakthrough seven minutes after the restart.

Domenico Berardi delivered a low cross into the box, and Pinamonti reacted quickest to poke home past Gleison Bremer and restore parity.

The Bianconeri pushed hard to reclaim the lead, with Muric again called into action to deny efforts, including a back-post header following another dangerous delivery from Conceição.

Their biggest chance, however, came late on when Jay Idzes was penalised for handball, handing Locatelli the opportunity to seal the win from the spot. But Muric guessed correctly and comfortably saved the midfielder’s effort.

The result leaves Juventus frustrated in their pursuit of a Champions League place, as they fail to capitalise on a chance to climb the table.

For Sassuolo, the draw offers some encouragement, although their inconsistent away form continues to limit their ambitions this season.
