Borno explosions: Arewa forum condemns attacks, warns of anarchy

Army kills 19 terrorists, repels attack in Borno

The Arewa Consultative Forum has strongly condemned the recent surge in violent attacks across parts of Nigeria, warning that the country could descend into anarchy if decisive measures are not urgently taken.

In a statement released on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Tukur Muhammad-Baba, the forum expressed deep concern over what it described as a disturbing pattern of insecurity affecting several states.

The group specifically referenced the recent bomb explosion in Maiduguri, which reportedly claimed multiple lives and left several others injured. It noted that the incident followed attacks on military formations in the state, resulting in casualties among soldiers and the destruction of military assets.

According to the ACF, similar attacks have also been recorded in Plateau State, Katsina State, Kwara State, Niger State, and Zamfara State, leading to loss of lives, destruction of property, and disruption of livelihoods.

“ACF is gravely saddened and disheartened, almost to the point of despair, about such occurrences as they continue unabated,” the statement read.

The forum described the attacks as coordinated, alleging that extremist groups were deliberately targeting communities to destabilise the country.

“The pattern of these incidents suggests a coordinated strategy by terror groups intent on disrupting normal life and undermining national stability,” it stated.

Linking the violence to insurgent activities, the ACF added, “These cowardly attacks reflect tactics long associated with Boko Haram and other criminal elements.”

While extending condolences to victims, their families, and security forces, the forum also expressed dissatisfaction with the current security response, describing it as inadequate.

“The persistence of these attacks is a clear indication that efforts to combat terrorism and insurgency have not been effective or reassuring,” the group said.

The ACF called for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s security strategies, urging the government to demonstrate stronger political will in tackling insecurity.

“Decisive and uncompromising action must be taken to confront these threats wherever they exist,” the statement added.

It further warned that failure to address the situation promptly could have severe consequences.

“Unless the insecurity is confronted urgently, Nigeria risks a dangerous and avoidable slide into widespread anarchy,” the forum cautioned.

The group concluded by urging authorities to prioritise national security above all other concerns, stressing that immediate action is critical to restoring peace and stability.
