Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has officially commenced his second term in office following his swearing-in on Tuesday in Awka.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square, saw Soludo take the oath of office alongside his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, at about 11:05 a.m. The oaths of office and allegiance were administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu.
The governor and his deputy were accompanied by their spouses and family members during the ceremony, which attracted several prominent dignitaries from across the country.
Among those in attendance were Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as elder statesman and former Commonwealth Secretary-General, Emeka Anyaoku.
Traditional rulers from the 179 communities in Anambra State, alongside monarchs from other parts of Nigeria, were also present at the event.
Soludo secured re-election on November 8, 2025, under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), with party members mobilised across the state’s 326 political wards for the inauguration.
Security was heightened across Awka and other parts of the state, with personnel from various agencies, including the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Federal Road Safety Corps, deployed to maintain order.
The swearing-in follows the conclusion of the governor’s first tenure, which ended with an interdenominational thanksgiving service held on Sunday at the International Convention Centre.
