United States President, Donald Trump, has announced that his Chief of Staff, Susie Wiles, has been diagnosed with breast cancer but will continue carrying out her duties while undergoing treatment.
Wiles, 68, made history as the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff and is widely regarded as a key force behind the operations of Trump’s second presidency.
Sharing the news on his Truth Social platform on Monday, Trump praised her resilience and determination.
“Susie Wiles is an incredible Chief of Staff, a great person, and one of the strongest people I know but, unfortunately, she has been diagnosed with early stage breast cancer, and has decided to take on this challenge, IMMEDIATELY, as opposed to waiting,” Trump posted on his Truth Social network.
“She has a fantastic medical team, and her prognosis is excellent!”
Trump further revealed that Wiles plans to remain actively involved in her role throughout the treatment process.
“During the treatment period, she will be spending virtually full time at the White House, which makes me, as President, very happy!”
The announcement comes at a time when Trump’s administration is navigating several pressing issues, including tensions surrounding Iran and declining approval ratings for the Republican Party ahead of the crucial midterm elections scheduled for November.
Trump has previously referred to Wiles, who began working with him in Florida during his 2016 presidential campaign, as “The Ice Maiden” and “the most powerful woman in the world.”
Despite maintaining a relatively low public profile, Wiles is known behind the scenes as a firm and disciplined gatekeeper, credited with helping prevent the kind of internal chaos and infighting that characterised Trump’s first term in the White House.
