Manchester City midfielder, Rodri, has reportedly been reported to police by neighbours who claim his drone-flying activities outside their apartments have invaded their privacy, according to The Sun.
Residents living in a city-centre high-rise close to the footballer’s penthouse say the drone has been seen hovering near their windows, leaving some worried that the device could allow him to see inside their homes while they are relaxing.
Authorities are now expected to speak with the 29-year-old Spanish international to ensure he understands the regulations governing drone use.
One resident who contacted The Sun said, “I live with my partner on a high floor and the last thing you expect to see when you’re watching telly is a drone a metre outside the window.
“My wife is very unnerved by it. One of the benefits of living so high up is that you’re not overlooked by anyone, but now we are being plagued by Rodri and his drone.”
Several tenants in the Salford, Greater Manchester building have reportedly asked their concierge to alert the management team responsible for the block where Rodri lives.
Others have also contacted police, expressing concerns that the footballer may be violating strict regulations governing where drones can operate and what they are permitted to record.
Another resident, who lives with his girlfriend on the 34th floor, said they were watching television one evening when they suddenly noticed a green flashing light hovering outside their window.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed the complaint, saying: “We have received a complaint and officers are making enquiries.”
The Civil Aviation Authority states that drone operators must respect people’s privacy and avoid causing a nuisance. Pilots are also required to pass a theory test and register with the authority before flying most drones.
Rodri, who is in a relationship with medical student Laura Iglesias, was named the world’s best player after winning the Ballon d’Or in 2024.
He joined Manchester City from Atlético Madrid in 2019 in a £63 million transfer deal.
