Ex-Super Eagles coach Adegboye Onigbinde dies at 88

Former Super Eagles head coach, Adegboye Onigbinde, has passed away at the age of 88.

Onigbinde departed to eternal glory on Monday night.

The celebrated tactician first rose to prominence after leading the then Green Eagles to a second-place finish at the 1984 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

Later that same year, he took charge of Shooting Stars Sports Club in Ibadan, steering the team to the final of the Africa Club Champions Cup, where they fell to Egypt’s Zamalek.

Onigbinde returned as Super Eagles head coach in 2002 following the dismissal of Amodu Shuaibu and guided the team to the 2002 FIFA World Cup, though Nigeria did not advance past the group stage.

Renowned for his discipline, tactical acumen, and dedication to nurturing young talent, Onigbinde remained a respected voice in Nigerian football long after his coaching days were over.
