United States President, Donald Trump, warned Friday that “Cuba is gonna fall pretty soon”, renewing his threats toward the communist‑led Caribbean nation as it struggles under a U.S. energy blockade.
In an interview with CNN, Trump said the island’s leaders are eager to negotiate. “They want to make a deal so badly,” he told the network, speaking a day after hinting at a post‑Iran war plan involving Cuba.
Trump insisted there’s no rush yet, saying, “We’ve got plenty of time, but Cuba’s ready — after 50 years,” and adding that Secretary of State Marco Rubio would lead U.S. efforts on Cuba.
Both Trump and Rubio, whose parents fled Cuba — have openly pushed for a change in Havana’s government.
The United States has cut off energy shipments to the island, a move that has drained Cuba’s fuel reserves, particularly after the U.S. capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, a major supplier of oil to Cuba.
Cuba has not received any imported oil since January 9, forcing airlines to slash flights and deepening an already serious economic crisis.
Havana has condemned Trump’s actions, accusing his administration of trying to squeeze the country’s economy.
