The Nigeria Police Force in Enugu State says it has arrested four suspects and recovered three stolen vehicles in separate intelligence-led operations across the state and neighboring Anambra State.
Spokesman of the Command, SP Daniel Ndukwe, announced the development in a statement on Saturday, noting that the breakthroughs resulted from “sustained, intelligence-driven policing efforts.”
According to him, operatives attached to the Central Police Station, working with the Neighbourhood Watch Group, arrested 22-year-old Joseph Nsor on February 26 at the Chris Chemist Roundabout in Enugu.
“The suspect had arrived in Enugu the previous day without a fixed address and was caught while attempting to drive away a stolen Toyota Hiace bus using a master key,” Ndukwe said.
He added that the vehicle was quickly traced to its rightful owner. Nsor was subsequently arraigned on February 27 and remanded at the Enugu Correctional Centre.
Ndukwe also disclosed that an earlier operation on January 31 led to the arrest of Ugwuanyi Samuel, also known as “Sammyblack,” described as a member of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.
“He was found in possession of a red Toyota Camry ‘Spider’ with a NANS plate number, which investigations confirmed belonged to a female victim in Ogbunike, Anambra. The car had been snatched in June 2022 during the abduction of her son,” he explained.
Police revealed that the victim’s son was released after a ransom of N500,000 was paid, while the car was repainted and taken away by the criminals.
A separate January 24 operation resulted in the arrest of two more suspects Chinonso John, 27, and Samuel Nwankwor, 41, an ex-convict after operatives stormed the New Garriki area of Awkunanaw.
“A red Toyota Matrix with registration number AAH 785 AE was recovered from them. The suspects confessed to snatching the vehicle at gunpoint in Awka on January 23 and admitted involvement in other robberies involving a Lexus RX 350 and a Toyota Highlander,” Ndukwe stated.
He said investigations were ongoing to track down additional members of the syndicates, and the suspects and exhibits would be transferred to the Anambra State Police Command for further action.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, reaffirmed the state command’s determination to fight crime aggressively.
“We urge residents to continue providing credible information and to adopt basic security measures to protect their vehicles,” he said.
