The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has officially confirmed Pastor Peter Akpe as the state’s new Deputy Governor, following his nomination by Governor Douye Diri.
Lawmakers endorsed Akpe’s appointment during their plenary session on Tuesday morning, marking a swift approval of the governor’s choice for the vacant position.
Before his elevation, Akpe served as Chief of Staff to the Governor, a role he held until his nomination for the deputy governorship.
A member of the assembly, who commented during the session, described Akpe as a fitting choice for the office.
“Pastor Akpe has demonstrated competence and loyalty in his previous roles. We believe he will serve the state effectively in his new position,” the lawmaker said.
Another legislator praised his administrative experience, noting that his confirmation was in the best interest of the state.
“His background as Chief of Staff gives him the understanding needed to support the governor and the government’s development agenda,” the member stated.
Akpe is expected to be sworn in shortly, following the assembly’s approval.
