MACBAN alleges fresh Plateau attack leaves two teenage herders dead

The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria has raised alarm over another violent incident in Plateau State, claiming that gunmen killed two teenage herders in a new attack in Riyom Local Government Area.

The association’s state chairman, Ibrahim Babayo, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Jos, saying the incident occurred on Saturday near Jol village in Riyom.

Babayo identified the victims as 18-year-old Muhammad Sani and 17-year-old Furuk Bilyaminu, adding that the teenagers were grazing cattle when they were attacked by armed assailants.

He noted that three cattle were also killed during the incident, while one of the bodies had yet to be recovered.

“Less than 48 hours after three innocent herders were ambushed and killed along the Dorowa-Jong road in Barkin Ladi, we are again recording another deadly attack on our members,” Babayo said.

“The latest incident happened around Jol village on Saturday. The victims, Muhammad Sani and Furuk Bilyaminu, were grazing their cattle when gunmen attacked them. One of the corpses is still missing, and three cattle were also killed.”

The MACBAN chairman condemned the attack and alleged that the perpetrators were militants, warning that repeated incidents were deepening fears among herding communities.

“This is not the first time our people have been targeted,” he said.

“We are calling on authorities to ensure protection for our members and their livelihoods. We remain law-abiding and will not be provoked, but we demand justice and decisive action.”

Babayo said the association had formally reported the incident to security agencies, including the Department of State Services, the police and Operation Enduring Peace, urging them to investigate and prevent further violence.
