The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast a combination of sunshine and cloudiness across the country from Monday to Wednesday, with chances of isolated thunderstorms in parts of the South.
In its three-day weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, the agency said northern Nigeria would experience predominantly sunny and cloudy conditions throughout the forecast period.
According to NiMet, similar weather patterns are expected to persist across the region during the three days under review.
For the southern part of the country, the agency predicted sunny conditions with patches of cloud cover, alongside the possibility of isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall in some coastal states later in the day.
“Sunny skies with cloud patches are expected over the southern region, while isolated thunderstorms with light rain may occur over parts of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states,” NiMet stated.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, the agency said sunny and hazy conditions would dominate the northern and central regions, while the South would experience sunny weather with intermittent cloudiness.
“There are prospects of morning thunderstorms with light rainfall over parts of Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states,” the agency said.
“As the day progresses, thunderstorms are expected over Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Bayelsa states.”
NiMet further predicted that Wednesday would begin with sunny and hazy conditions in the North, with dust haze expected to intensify during the afternoon and evening hours.
The agency said the North-Central region would experience sunny and hazy skies throughout the day, while the southern region would record cloudy conditions with sunny intervals in the morning.
“Isolated thunderstorms with light rain are likely over parts of Anambra, Imo, Abia, Edo, Bayelsa, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states,” NiMet added.
The agency also issued health and safety advisories, warning residents about suspended dust particles in parts of the North-Central region.
“Members of the public are advised to take necessary precautions, especially those with respiratory or asthmatic conditions,” NiMet said.
“Motorists should exercise caution when driving in rainy conditions, and airline operators are encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective operational planning.”
NiMet urged Nigerians to stay updated through its official weather forecasts and advisories to reduce weather-related risks.
