Bernardo Silva may miss Man City, Liverpool clash over injury

Manchester City could be facing their first Premier League match this season without Bernardo Silva after the midfielder sustained an injury in recent days, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The City captain appeared to pick up the issue during the 2-2 draw with Tottenham and missed the midweek victory over Newcastle, which secured the Blues a spot in the Carabao Cup final.

While Manchester City can celebrate reaching another final, the team is acutely aware of the slim margin for error in the Premier League, having dropped points in five of their last six games since the start of the year.

City now travel to Liverpool on Sunday, a venue where Pep Guardiola has managed only a single win with the club, five years ago.

Silva, who has started all of the last 16 league matches, has not been ruled out for the trip to Anfield, but Guardiola sounded cautious when asked about his availability after the Newcastle win.

“Could be okay are not the words. He is an incredible doubt. He will try, I know him, he will try but he is an incredible doubt,” the City boss said.

“We’ll see. Yesterday he said to me, I don’t feel quite good, I want to try. It’s a position that is less dangerous than a hamstring, it’s another type of muscle, but we’ll see.”

In brighter news for the Blues, Nico Gonzalez and Rodri are expected to be available after both featured in the 3-1 win over Newcastle.

Tijjani Reijnders impressed with one of his finest performances of the season and will compete for a midfield spot alongside Phil Foden and Rayan Cherki.
