Serie A: Juventus crush Napoli 3-0, dent title hopes

Juventus delivered a crushing blow to Napoli’s Serie A title hopes with an emphatic 3-0 victory at the Allianz Stadium.

Jonathan David broke the deadlock before the interval, setting the tone for a disciplined and dominant Juve display that was capped by second-half goals from Kenan Yildiz and Filip Kostić.

The result extended the Bianconeri’s unbeaten home run in all competitions this season.

Massimiliano Allegri’s side were sharp from the outset, with Weston McKennie squandering an early header from close range before Khéphren Thuram rattled the post with a powerful effort. Napoli responded through Antonio Vergara, whose low drive was brilliantly turned away by Michele Di Gregorio, while Rasmus Højlund later saw a goalbound attempt blocked.

The breakthrough arrived in the 22nd minute when Manuel Locatelli split Napoli’s defence with a precise through ball, allowing David to race clear and finish confidently into the bottom corner.

Juventus pushed for a second before the break, with Locatelli forcing another fine save and Thuram seeing his effort diverted behind, while Napoli struggled to gain sustained control.

After the restart, Napoli enjoyed more possession but found clear chances hard to come by, with Højlund flashing a shot narrowly wide. Juve’s compact shape and tireless pressing continued to frustrate the visitors.

The hosts tightened their grip on the contest in the 77th minute when Fabio Miretti slipped a clever pass into the area for Yildiz, who calmly guided a low finish past Alex Meret.

Juventus then added gloss to the scoreline late on as Kostić struck a fierce low effort from the edge of the box to seal a convincing win. Romelu Lukaku missed Napoli’s best late opportunity in stoppage time, firing wide from inside the area.

The defeat leaves Napoli nine points adrift of leaders Inter, having missed the chance to draw level with AC Milan in second.

It was also their first loss in 10 matches across all competitions and a fifth league defeat of the campaign, all away from home, while their winless streak in Turin stretched to seven games.
