One person was injured on Sunday morning after two vehicles collided on the Eko Bridge in Lagos, causing heavy traffic congestion along the busy corridor.
The accident, which occurred at about 6 a.m., involved a truck and a white car on the inward lane of the bridge toward the NEPA axis.
Confirming the incident in a post on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority said the impact of the crash caused the car to overturn, leaving its driver injured.
“An accident involving two vehicles occurred on Eko Bridge inward NEPA,” LASTMA stated. “The car flipped during the collision, and the injured driver has been rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention.”
Although details of the driver’s condition were not immediately disclosed, the agency confirmed that emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene.
LASTMA said its officials, alongside officers from the Ebute Ero Divisional Police Station, were deployed to manage the situation and ease traffic flow.
“Our personnel and police officers are on ground managing the scene,” the agency said.
“Traffic has been reduced to one lane, resulting in slow movement and a backlog extending toward Offin Canal.”
The accident led to significant delays for motorists, as traffic built up on the bridge, which serves as a major link between different parts of Lagos.
In a later update, LASTMA announced that the damaged vehicles had been evacuated from the bridge.
“The affected vehicles have been successfully removed, and normal traffic flow is expected to be restored along the route,” the statement added.
Eko Bridge, which spans the Lagos Lagoon, is one of the state’s busiest roadways, carrying thousands of vehicles daily and frequently experiencing traffic disruptions due to accidents.
