Former First Lady of Oyo State, Florence Ajimobi, has denied involvement in a viral video allegedly showing her describing the All Progressives Congress strategy for the 2027 governorship election as a “war.”
In the clip circulating on social media, Ajimobi was purportedly heard saying the APC would deploy money and federal influence to unseat the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State. She has, however, dismissed the video as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Ajimobi described the footage as an artificial intelligence-generated deepfake, insisting that she never made the statements attributed to her.
“A digital forensic examination will reveal that the video is a synthetic fabrication created using generative AI,” she said. “It is a deepfake in which artificial intelligence was used to manipulate lip movements and voice to deliver a script I never spoke.”
She warned that the clip represents a growing trend of what experts describe as “synthetic deception,” noting that such tactics could be weaponised to influence the 2027 electoral process.
“The use of AI to impersonate public figures and manufacture controversial statements sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the integrity of democratic discourse,” Ajimobi said.
She urged members of the public, media organisations and security agencies to disregard the video, describing it as a malicious hoax.
“In an era of increasingly sophisticated digital manipulation, it is critical to verify the source and authenticity of inflammatory content before sharing it,” she added.
Ajimobi reaffirmed her commitment to democratic values and said she was considering legal action against those behind the video.
“I remain committed to truth and the democratic process, and I reserve all legal rights to seek redress against the creators and intentional distributors of this fraudulent media,” she said.
