The Joint Unions of Nasarawa State Tertiary Institutions have officially suspended their month-long strike, directing lecturers across state-owned institutions to return to their classrooms immediately.

The industrial action, which began on December 24, 2025, involved lecturers from Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Lafia, College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia, and the College of Education, Akwanga. The strike was triggered by the non-implementation of the New National Minimum Wage for academic staff.

Speaking at a press briefing at Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic on Wednesday, JUNSTI Chairman Samson Kale Gbande confirmed the end of the strike.

He commended the state government for responding to the union’s demands, noting that payment of the new wage for November and December had already begun.

“We appreciate Governor Abdullahi Sule for ensuring the prompt implementation of the New National Minimum Wage across the three institutions,” Gbande said.

“We also commend his commitment to improving the welfare of workers. JUNSTI members are now directed to return to their duty posts immediately and unconditionally.”

The rector of Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic, Associate Professor Nurudeen Mu’azu Maifata, who engaged with the unions during recent talks, urged lecturers to embrace dialogue and maintain calm, emphasizing that the government was actively addressing their concerns.

“The cooperation of academic staff is vital to ensuring that students do not suffer from disruptions in learning,” Maifata said.

The Nasarawa State Government, through Peter Ahemba, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, had earlier appealed for the strike to be suspended to allow further discussions between the unions and the government.

With the suspension of the strike, students across the affected institutions can now resume academic activities without further interruption.
