Ex-Super Eagles skipper Troost-Ekong to join Qatar club Al Ahli

Former Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, is on the verge of a high-profile transfer to Al Ahli SC in Qatar, signaling a new chapter in his club career.

Top transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development, revealing that the Nigerian international will commit to the Qatari club until June 2028.

“Nigerian defender William Troost-Ekong is signing in Qatar for Al Ahli SC from Saudi club Al Kholood. Contract until June 2028,” Romano wrote on X.

Ekong, who has been plying his trade with Saudi Arabian side Al Kholood, had a contract that included the option for an additional year, making his departure a notable move in the region’s football market.

The 33-year-old defender had previously decided to step away from international football just ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, choosing to focus entirely on his club career.

With extensive experience in European and Middle Eastern football, including stints in the Netherlands, Belgium, and England, Ekong’s arrival in Qatar is expected to bolster Al Ahli’s defensive line as they aim for domestic and continental success.
