The Ondo State Government has warned that it will no longer tolerate land grabbing and other related offences, as it moves to strengthen the protection of property owners across the state.
The Chairman of the state’s Anti-Land Grabbing Task Force and Attorney General, Dr Kayode Ajulo, issued the warning in Akure after the inaugural meeting of the task force.
Ajulo said the administration had resolved to enforce the Ondo State Properties Protection and Its Documentation Law, 2024, without compromise.
“There will be zero tolerance for land grabbing across the 18 local government areas of Ondo State,” he said.
“The grace period ended in 2025. Any individual still involved in this illegal activity should understand that 2026 will be different.”
He disclosed that the task force had identified individuals allegedly notorious for forceful and fraudulent land acquisition and would move decisively against them.
“We have compiled names of persons deeply involved in these activities. This year, we are going all out, and the law will be applied strictly,” Ajulo added.
The Attorney General warned against illegal land sales, multiple sales by owning families, intimidation of legitimate landowners, and any form of forceful takeover.
“Anyone found guilty will be arrested, prosecuted, and made to face the consequences,” he said.
Ajulo commended Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for backing the law that criminalises land grabbing and land-related fraud, noting that the policy was designed to restore confidence in property ownership in the state.
The warning comes amid rising complaints by residents, including farmers in parts of Odigbo Local Government Area, who have accused suspected land grabbers of harassment and violent intimidation.
