Super Eagles still eye AFCON third-place – Calvin-Bassey

Calvin Bassey has stressed that the Super Eagles still have plenty to fight for at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite their heartbreaking loss to Morocco.

Éric Chelle’s side fell 4-2 on penalties to the Atlas Lions in their semi-final clash in Rabat on Wednesday evening.

The Super Eagles will now face Egypt in the third-place match at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca on Saturday.

Looking back at the defeat, Bassey insisted the team gave everything in a tightly contested game.

The Fulham defender affirmed that the squad remains determined to claim victory in the consolation match.

”We thank God in all situations. A gutting way to end the tournament. The support & togetherness we’ve felt has been special. Sorry we couldn’t take it all the way, we fought and gave it our all. We’ll build on this. Not finished yet though, we still have something to push for. 💚,” Bassey wrote on X.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 5pm Nigerian time, though Bassey will miss the game due to suspension.
