LASUSTECH partners BAT group to establish Tinubu school of politics

The Lagos State University of Science and Technology Ikorodu, has entered into a partnership with the BAT Ideological Group to establish the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Institute of Politics and Policies.

The initiative is aimed at promoting ideological education and strengthening political leadership development in Nigeria.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Media and Publicity of the BAT Ideological Group, Arabinrin Aderonke, following a strategic meeting between the group’s leadership and the management of LASUSTECH.

According to Aderonke, the agreement was reached during a high-level engagement involving key members of the group and principal officers of the university.

The delegation was led by the convener of the BAT Ideological Group, Mr Bamidele Atoyebi, alongside the group’s patron, Alhaji Tejumade Onirin, Oyo State Coordinator, Prof. Fayomi Oluyemi, and the Oyo State Woman Leader, Dr Bisi Alabi.

They were received by the Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, in the company of other senior university officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Abiodun Denloye, Registrar David Ogungbe, Bursar Oki Olashile, and Dean of Student Affairs, Owoeye David.

Speaking after the meeting, Atoyebi said the group had formally presented a detailed proposal for the creation of a School of Politics and Policies, which would function as a national centre for ideological training, leadership development, and governance studies.

“The proposal outlines a structured institution that will serve as a hub for political education, leadership formation and policy development,” Atoyebi said.

He disclosed that both parties had agreed that academic and professional activities of the institute would commence within two to three months.

“LASUSTECH has provided a temporary facility to ensure immediate take-off, while plans are underway for the construction of a permanent structure that reflects the vision and national importance of the institute,” he added.

Atoyebi explained that the institute was conceived in response to what he described as a persistent leadership gap in Nigeria’s political system.

According to him, the institute will offer academic programmes at diploma, master’s and doctoral levels, as well as professional certifications, fellowships and ideological training for both emerging and established political actors.

“This institute is designed to address leadership deficiencies through structured learning, policy research and ideological grooming,” he said.

He further described the initiative as historic, noting that it would be the first university-based political institution in Nigeria named after a sitting President.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu represents more than an individual political actor. His leadership philosophy and governance approach warrant institutional study, documentation and preservation,” Atoyebi stated.

The proposed institute is expected to operate within LASUSTECH’s academic framework while serving a broader national and policy-oriented mandate.
