Not again, Nwabali laments Super Eagles’ AFCON semifinal exit

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, has voiced his frustration following Nigeria’s exit from the 2025 AFCON semi-finals at the hands of Morocco on Wednesday.

Nigeria’s quest for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations crown came to an end after a tense penalty shootout, with the Super Eagles losing 4-2 following a 0-0 stalemate in regulation and extra time.

Nwabali was outstanding between the posts, producing a series of crucial saves during the match and even stopping Morocco’s second penalty in the shootout.

Despite his heroics, it marked another painful penalty shootout defeat for the goalkeeper, who had previously suffered a similar heartbreak when the Super Eagles fell to DR Congo in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs.

Reacting to the loss, Nwabali took to X to share his disappointment, posting, “Not again!!!! 🤦🏽‍♂️💔.”

The Super Eagles will aim to finish the tournament on a high note when they face Egypt in the third-place play-off on Saturday.
