Court remands Portable over alleged assault, car theft in Ogun

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been remanded in custody after his arraignment on multiple criminal charges at a Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State.

The artiste is facing a nine-count charge bordering on assault, theft, causing bodily harm, and obstruction of law enforcement officers. The charges were confirmed by the Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi.

Portable’s arraignment followed the circulation of a viral video showing him in police custody, which police sources linked to a complaint filed by his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on New Year’s Day at the singer’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Ogun State. Prosecutors alleged that Portable assaulted Ashabi, several police officers, and other individuals during the altercation.

Other alleged victims named in the charge include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.

The singer was also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million. The vehicle, reportedly owned by Ileyemi Damilola, was said to have been taken from a car dealer identified as Wally Dex Auto.

During the court proceedings, two siblings of Ashabi Simple testified as witnesses to the alleged assault. Ashabi herself was not present in court.

Police further accused Portable of obstructing and assaulting a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was carrying out her official duties.

Ruling on the matter, the presiding judge declined to grant the singer bail, citing the absence of the allegedly assaulted police officer in court. The judge insisted that the officer must appear before a decision on bail could be made.

As a result, Portable was ordered to be remanded in custody pending a fresh bail hearing scheduled for January 19.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has also ordered an investigation into a separate viral video that allegedly shows the singer being assaulted while in custody.

This is not Portable’s first encounter with the law. In May 2025, a magistrate court in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment for assault.

That conviction was linked to a 2022 incident in which the ‘Zazoo Zeh’ crooner was accused of attacking one Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi in the Okeosa area of Ilogbo. He was also alleged to have stolen musical equipment, including a studio monitor, interface cable, and a condenser microphone.
