AFCON: I’m proud of my team, Chelle hails Super Eagles

Super Eagles coach, Eric Chelle, expressed immense pride in his team after Nigeria’s commanding 2-0 victory over Algeria in the 2025 AFCON quarter-final on Saturday.

Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams emerged as the match-winners, with second-half strikes that sealed the win for the three-time champions.

Osimhen opened the scoring in the 47th minute, heading home a precise cross from Bruno Onyemaechi. Just ten minutes later, Adams doubled the lead, receiving a pass from Osimhen, rounding the goalkeeper, and finishing into an empty net.

For his standout performance, Osimhen was named Man of the Match.

Reflecting on the triumph during the post-match press conference, Chelle said, “It was a great game, we played well to win this game and I’m so proud of them (Super Eagles players).

“We work a lot and deserve this victory but this is just one game so if you want to stay ambitious you have to work again because we have a big game in a few days so we will continue to work.”

Looking ahead, the Super Eagles will aim for a fourth continental crown when they face hosts Morocco on Wednesday, January 14.

The other semi-final will feature Senegal taking on seven-time AFCON winners Egypt.
