Super Eagles head coach, Éric Chelle, has emerged as one of the contenders for the vacant managerial position at French club Olympique Marseille.
The role became available after Roberto De Zerbi parted ways with the club on Tuesday.
The Italian manager left by mutual consent following Marseille’s heavy 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain.
French journalist Lassana Camara reported that Chelle is among the names being considered for the high-profile job.
Former Marseille captain Habib Beye, who recently managed Stade Rennes, is also reportedly on the club’s shortlist.
Chelle has attracted interest from several sides since guiding the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
However, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Gusau, remains optimistic that the Malian tactician will continue with the national team.
“Eric Chelle still has a year left on his contract. He enjoys working with Nigeria, believes in the Super Eagles, and is confident he can achieve success with this team,” Gusau said.
“The important thing is his strong belief in the squad and his desire to fulfil his ambitions with them.”
Chelle, 48, was appointed head coach of the Super Eagles in January 2025.
