Barcelona head coach, Hansi Flick, has revealed that the club’s goal this season is to successfully defend the Spanish Super Cup.
The Catalan giants arrive in Saudi Arabia as last year’s champions, having defeated arch-rivals Real Madrid in the final, and will face Athletic Club in Wednesday’s semi-final.
Flick believes that securing a record-extending 16th Supercopa de España would provide the ideal platform for his squad to build momentum and aim for further success this season.
“This tournament is a little bit different (to the equivalent competition) in Germany, but I like it.
“For us to win the Super Cup (last season) gave us a lot of energy for the rest of the season and this is also what we want this year.”
