Police uncover suspected unexploded military bomb in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has successfully recovered a suspected military unexploded ordnance in Zugurma community, located in Mashegu Local Government Area.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, revealed this in a statement issued in Minna on Tuesday.

He explained that the recovery followed a report received on Monday from the Divisional Police Officer of Ibbi Division, Mashegu.

“Some residents of the community had sighted an object suspected to be a missile in a forest within the area,” Abiodun said.
He noted that police operatives from the division quickly responded, securing the scene to safeguard the community.

According to Abiodun, the state’s Commissioner of Police, Adamu Elleman, instructed that personnel be deployed to the location.

“The command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit, led by CSP Mohammed Mamun, were on location by Tuesday,” he added.

Abiodun further stated that the division’s operatives, together with community members, guided the EOD team to the precise location of the device.

“The EOD team rendered the device safe and recovered it into custody before its onward movement to the State Police Headquarters in Minna,” he said.
