Serie A: Ferguson, Dovbyk shine as Roma beat Lecce 2-0

Roma claimed a comfortable 2-0 away victory over Lecce, with their attacking duo Evan Ferguson and Artem Dovbyk both finding the net to seal all three points.

The breakthrough came in the first half when Ferguson showed great composure inside the box, finishing clinically after being picked out by Paulo Dybala.

Roma maintained control for much of the contest and doubled their advantage after the break through Dovbyk, whose goal capped a solid all-round team display.

Speaking after the match on DAZN, Ferguson expressed satisfaction with the result rather than individual praise. “I’m really happy with the away win,” the Irish forward said. “The most important thing was getting the three points. Now we reset, recover and focus on the next game.”

Ferguson also highlighted the strong understanding he shares with Dovbyk, despite both players competing for the same central striker role. According to him, their relationship is built on communication and mutual support rather than rivalry.

“We talk a lot and try to help each other,” he explained. “We have a very good relationship even though we play in the same position. We’re always giving each other advice and pushing one another to improve.”

On Dovbyk’s fitness, Ferguson admitted there was still some uncertainty following the Ukrainian’s recent return from injury. “I’m not sure if it’s the same injury as before,” he said. “He’s only just come back, so we’ll see how he feels ahead of the next match.”

Reflecting on his own form, Ferguson acknowledged that confidence naturally grows with game time and goals. “For strikers, scoring is everything,” he added. “The more you play, the more chances you get, and that builds confidence. So yes, I feel more confident.”
