Kebbi directs schools to resume second teerm January 5

Army rescues 17 kidnapped victims in Kebbi

The Kebbi State Government has announced the resumption of the second term for all public and private primary and secondary schools across the state, effective Monday, January 5, 2026.

The directive was issued on Friday through joint statements signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board, Isah Ibrahim, and the Deputy Director (Academics) at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Aliyu Bagarawa.

The government said the decision followed the successful completion of the first term of the 2025/2026 academic session and reflects its commitment to maintaining a stable and uninterrupted academic calendar.

Recall that schools across the state were earlier shut following the abduction of 25 students from Government Day Secondary School, Maga, in Zuru Local Government Area, by suspected bandits.

In the statement, the government urged all education stakeholders to comply strictly with the resumption directive.

“All school administrators, education secretaries, principals, head teachers, teachers, parents and students are hereby requested to take note of this directive and ensure full compliance,” the statement read.

The government stressed that schools must make adequate preparations ahead of resumption to ensure a smooth take-off of academic activities in both urban and rural areas.

School heads were instructed to ensure the readiness of staff and facilities, while parents and guardians were advised to ensure that their children and wards return to school promptly.

Meanwhile, a separate circular issued to Zonal Education Officers, principals, head teachers and proprietors of private schools disclosed that the first week of the second term would be used to conduct outstanding first-term examinations.

According to the circular, normal classroom teaching and other academic activities will commence on Monday, January 12, 2026, immediately after the completion of the examinations.

The government also warned that schools must adhere strictly to the approved resumption timetable and examination schedule, noting that monitoring teams would be deployed to ensure compliance.
