Super Eagles beat Tunisia 3-2 to enter Round of 16

Nigeria’s Super Eagles booked their place in the Round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Tunisia in Rabat, Morocco, on Saturday.

The three-time African champions produced an impressive attacking display, with Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman all getting on the scoresheet to ensure Nigeria progressed from the group stage.

After a cagey opening spell, Nigeria struck just before the break. Ademola Lookman delivered a teasing cross from the left in the 44th minute, which Osimhen met with a well-timed finish to put the Super Eagles ahead going into halftime.

The momentum continued early in the second half as captain Wilfred Ndidi doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 50th minute, once again benefiting from Lookman’s creativity as the midfielder calmly found the back of the net.

Nigeria appeared to have the contest firmly under control when Lookman capped his outstanding performance with a goal of his own in the 70th minute, finishing off a swift move after being set up by Osimhen.

Tunisia, however, refused to go down without a fight. Youssef Talbi pulled one back in the 74th minute to spark a late rally, and nerves crept in when Ali Abdi converted a penalty in the 87th minute following a handball by Bright Osayi-Samuel.

Despite the late pressure, the Super Eagles showed composure and defensive resilience to see out the game and secure all three points.

With the victory, Nigeria advance to the knockout phase and will take on Uganda in the Round of 16 on Tuesday at 5 pm, as they continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
