Police patrol Abuja mosques, recreation centres

Officers from the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigerian Police Force carried out security patrols of mosques and recreational centres across Abuja on Friday as part of measures to ensure public safety during the festive period.

The patrol was led by the FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, the exercise aimed to evaluate security arrangements and boost public confidence.

“This patrol is part of our continuous efforts to guarantee the safety of residents and visitors during this festive season,” Adeh said.

“By physically inspecting key public locations, the Commissioner of Police has reaffirmed the Command’s proactive approach to crime prevention and public safety management.”

She added that the initiative complements existing security deployments, including visible patrols, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with other security agencies. “These measures are designed to deter criminal activities and ensure a peaceful environment throughout the festivities,” Adeh said.

The Commissioner of Police also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities, emphasizing the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

The Abuja patrol comes in the wake of a tragic bombing at the Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque near Gamboru Market in Maiduguri, Borno State, which claimed at least five lives and left 35 people injured during Wednesday’s Maghrib prayers.
