NiMet predicts three days of sunshine, hazy weather nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast predominantly sunny and hazy weather conditions across the country from Sunday to Tuesday.

The forecast was contained in NiMet’s three-day weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja.

According to the agency, northern parts of the country will experience mostly sunny skies throughout the period, while states in the North-Central region are expected to witness hazy atmospheric conditions.

NiMet noted that parts of the South may experience brief weather disturbances, particularly on Sunday, with pockets of morning thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states.

“Later in the day on Sunday, isolated thunderstorms are expected over Rivers, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states,” the agency said.

For Monday, the agency projected continued sunshine across the northern region, with hazy conditions persisting over the North-Central states. It added that the southern part of the country would likely see cloudy conditions in the morning, followed by isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

On Tuesday, NiMet said sunny and hazy conditions would remain dominant in the North and North-Central regions, while the South would experience cloudy skies in the morning and isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the day.

The agency cautioned residents, particularly those with respiratory ailments, to take necessary health precautions due to the presence of dust particles in the atmosphere.

“People with respiratory challenges are advised to limit outdoor exposure and take appropriate safety measures,” NiMet warned.

Motorists were also advised to drive carefully during rainfall, while airline operators were encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet to support effective flight planning.

NiMet urged the general public to stay informed by regularly checking its official weather updates for timely and accurate information.
