Super Eagles to hold first AFCON train on Friday

The Super Eagles are set to kick off their first training sessions in Fes, Morocco, on Friday as they ramp up preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

According to team media officer, Promise Efoghe, the squad will conduct two sessions on the day, one in the morning at 10 a.m. and another in the evening at 6 p.m.

The initial session was pushed to Friday to accommodate the team’s arrival on Thursday.

The players and officials arrived in Fes from Cairo, Egypt, where they had been fine-tuning their squad ahead of their Group C clashes against Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.

While in Egypt, the Super Eagles played a friendly against the seven-time AFCON champions, Egypt, which ended in a 2-1 defeat.

Having narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the team will be eager to lift Nigerian spirits by claiming this year’s continental trophy.

The Super Eagles, under former coach Jose Peseiro, came close to winning the 2023 AFCON but fell 2-1 to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final.

Nigeria’s three-time champions last celebrated AFCON glory in 2013 in South Africa, and fans will be hoping the team can reclaim the throne in Morocco this year.
