NiMet forecasts three days of sunshine nationwide

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has projected predominantly sunny and hazy weather conditions across Nigeria from Sunday to Tuesday, with pockets of dust haze and isolated thunderstorms in some parts of the country.

In its three-day weather outlook issued on Saturday in Abuja, the agency said the northern region will experience sunny and hazy conditions throughout the forecast period, with dust particles expected to remain suspended in the atmosphere.

NiMet noted that the central region will witness slight dust haze from Sunday through Tuesday, while the southern states are expected to record cloudy conditions with intervals of sunshine, especially in the mornings.

“From Sunday, a sunny and hazy atmosphere is anticipated over the northern region, while a slight dust haze is expected over the central region throughout the forecast period,” the agency stated.

For the southern part of the country, NiMet said mornings will be largely cloudy with some sunshine, while isolated thunderstorms are likely later in the day over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Lagos and Akwa Ibom states.

The agency explained that by Monday, dust haze conditions will intensify slightly in the northern region.

“On Monday, a moderate dust haze atmosphere is anticipated over the northern region throughout the forecast period, while slight dust haze will persist over the central region,” NiMet said.

It added that “cloudy conditions with a few hours of sunshine are expected over the southern region, with prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Rivers states during the morning hours.”

NiMet further projected that on Tuesday, moderate dust haze will continue in the northern region, while the central region will remain sunny and hazy.

In the southern region, cloudy mornings are expected, followed by isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall.

“Isolated thunderstorms with light rains are expected over parts of Anambra, Imo, Ogun, Ondo, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Lagos, Delta and Rivers states,” the agency said.

The meteorological agency advised Nigerians to take precautionary measures, particularly residents in dust-prone areas.

“People with asthmatic conditions and other respiratory challenges should be cautious due to suspended dust particles in the atmosphere,” NiMet warned.

It also urged motorists to drive carefully during rainfall and advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports from the agency for effective flight planning.

NiMet encouraged residents to stay updated with official weather information, adding that regular updates are available through its official communication channels.
