Super Eagles sweat over Nwabali’s fitness ahead AFCON

Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali is racing against time to be fit for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after sustaining injuries to his ankle and hand.

The Chippa United star is still undergoing treatment, raising concerns over his availability for the continental showpiece.

Chippa United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi admitted the situation remains uncertain, though the player has remained optimistic.

“I don’t think he will make it, but when I spoke with him, he sounded very confident that he will recover very soon,” Vilakazi told SuperSport.

Nwabali, 29, reportedly picked up the injuries during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying games in Morocco last month and has yet to feature for the Chilli Boys since returning from national duty.

Having cemented his place as Nigeria’s No.1 following his exceptional displays at AFCON 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire, his potential absence would be a major blow to the Super Eagles ahead of the tournament.
