Tella’s Leverkusen stun Dortmund 1-0 in DFB-Pokal

Nathan Tella featured briefly as Bayer Leverkusen secured a 1-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund to advance to the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles winger came off the bench with just seven minutes remaining.

The decisive moment came in the 34th minute when Algerian international Ibrahim Maza struck for Leverkusen.

Maza’s clever movement inside the Dortmund box created just enough space for a precise finish past goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

Karim Adeyemi impressed for Dortmund in the first half, showcasing his recent rich vein of form, but the German side struggled to find the breakthrough. Adeyemi would later miss a chance to equalise, firing off-target.

Maza’s performance was yet another highlight in a purple patch for the Algerian, who has been a standout for Leverkusen both domestically and in their recent clash with Manchester City.

Tella, meanwhile, remains in the mix for international duty, having been named in Nigeria’s 55-man provisional squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

His last appearance for the Super Eagles came at the Unity Cup in London back in May.
