Police arrest suspected IPOB member in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a man suspected to be a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Awka.

He credited the breakthrough to the security measures introduced by the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, which include enhanced surveillance, increased visibility policing, and intensified routine and targeted patrols across the state.

Ikenga stated, “Police operatives attached to the Ozubulu Police Division, working in collaboration with the Ozubulu Central Vigilance on Nov. 30, arrested Emmanuel Osuigwe at Amakwa, Ozubulu,” noting that the suspect drew attention after acting suspiciously and attempting to hide when he saw the patrol team.

He said the operatives swiftly took him into custody, and a search revealed a handcuff wound on him as well as a handcuff in his possession.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly admitted to belonging to the proscribed group and claimed he had recently fled from a secessionist camp in Ukpor following a dispute with other members.

Ikenga added that the suspect is currently being held while investigations continue and has already provided information helpful to the ongoing probe.

“He has provided useful information that is aiding ongoing investigations,” he said.
