Kano govt dismisses security scare, warns against fake alerts

The Kano State Government has debunked widespread rumours alleging an imminent security crisis, assuring residents that the state remains peaceful and fully secured.

The clarification followed a meeting of the State Security Council on Sunday, where Governor Abba Yusuf received updates from heads of all security agencies operating in the state.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, the government said no intelligence report supports claims of any looming attack.

“There is no valid or actionable information pointing to any significant security risk in Kano,” the statement read. It described the circulating messages as “false, sensational, and deliberately crafted to cause panic.”

The state condemned what it called an emerging pattern of fabricated security warnings on social media, cautioning those responsible to desist or face legal consequences.

According to the statement, the government has strengthened collaboration with security agencies, increased surveillance and enhanced intelligence gathering across all local government areas.

“Security formations have been briefed, strategically deployed and are working round the clock to neutralise any potential breach,” Dawakin-Tofa said, adding that “every part of Kano is under active surveillance, supported by a robust security architecture.”

The government encouraged residents to continue their daily activities without fear while exercising caution in their use of social media.

“Kano will not succumb to fear, misinformation or attempts to destabilise its peace. The government remains fully committed to protecting lives and property,” the statement added.

It further noted that Governor Yusuf’s administration is deepening coordination among security and intelligence agencies and deploying advanced security mechanisms to ensure the state’s stability.
