Kano govt sacks two senior aides over misconduct

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered the immediate dismissal of two Senior Special Assistants over separate cases of misconduct, while absolving another aide of wrongdoing.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, the governor approved the removal of Abubakar Umar Sharada, Senior Special Assistant on Political Mobilisation, after an investigative panel found him complicit in securing the bail of a suspected drug kingpin, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

According to the statement, Sharada’s involvement in the controversial bail process “was confirmed through his own testimony before the committee.”

He has been instructed to return all government property in his possession to the Permanent Secretary, Research, Evaluation and Political Affairs, before the close of work on Monday, August 11, 2025, and warned against parading himself as a government official.

Similarly, the governor sacked Tasiu Adamu Al’amin Roba, Senior Special Assistant in the Cabinet Office, over his alleged role in rebagging palliative grains at a warehouse in Sharada in 2024.

The statement noted that Roba had already been charged in court for theft and criminal conspiracy related to the diversion of public assets.

He has also been ordered to surrender all official items, including his identity card, by Monday, and to cease identifying as a government appointee.

In contrast, the statement revealed that Special Adviser on Drainages, Hon. Musa Ado Tsamiya, had been cleared of all accusations by an investigative committee, which affirmed his innocence.

Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to “discipline, transparency, and zero tolerance for corruption,” urging public officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity in both their official duties and private lives.

“The public is strongly advised not to transact or engage with the two dismissed political appointees on any matter relating to the Kano State Government. Anyone who does so does it at their own risk,” the statement warned.
