Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has approved a new round of appointments and promotions across major government institutions in the state.
The announcement was made on Monday through a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, who said the changes were aimed at strengthening public service delivery.
According to the statement, Abubakar Matawalle has been named the Acting Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board.
Dawakin-Tofa noted that Matawalle previously served as Executive Secretary of the board and later became Permanent Secretary, Establishment, before retiring in 2014.
He described Matawalle as “a seasoned administrator who rose through the ranks from Assistant Secretary to Permanent Secretary and distinguished himself in managing Hajj operations over the years.”
The governor also approved the promotion of Yusuf Mukhtar to the position of Permanent Secretary.
In another major appointment, Rahama Alhaji was confirmed as the new Provost of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Institute. The governor’s spokesperson praised her expertise, saying, “Her appointment reflects the governor’s commitment to strengthening anti-corruption institutions with professionals of proven integrity, competence, and administrative capacity.”
Kannywood veteran Aina’u Ade was elevated from Special Assistant to Senior Special Assistant on Kannywood Affairs.
Her promotion, the statement noted, follows her “outstanding performance in her previous role.”
Governor Yusuf urged the appointees to uphold professionalism and remain committed to the principles of transparency and the Kano First Agenda. All appointments and promotions take immediate effect.
These changes come just days after an earlier batch of appointments meant to enhance governance across key sectors.
Among them was the appointment of Abdulkadir Kankarofi as Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs in the Office of the Governor.
