Referee issues 17 red cards as Bolivian Cup match end in chaos

A Copa Bolivia quarter-final clash between Blooming and Real Oruro ended in mayhem as 17 individuals, players and staff included, were sent off following a massive post-match brawl.

The tie finished 2-2 on the night, which was enough for Blooming to advance to the semi-finals, having secured a 2-1 win in the first leg.

However, the result was quickly overshadowed by violence erupting after the final whistle.

Videos circulating on social media show players from both sides colliding in a huge melee, with staff members joining in and throwing punches.

Police present at the stadium were forced to deploy tear gas to bring the situation under control.

According to Bolivian outlet El Potosi (via The Sun), the trouble started when Oruro forward Sebastian Zeballos broke free from Blooming players who were trying to restrain him and began pushing opponents.

His teammate, Julio Vila, also became involved, landing punches that escalated the chaos.

Oruro coach Marcelo Robledo confronted a rival coach during the fracas and was pushed backward, sustaining a shoulder injury and a head blow that required hospitalisation.

Blooming coach Mauricio Soria quickly led his players into the dressing room in an attempt to restore order.

The report indicated that seven Blooming players were sent off by referee Renan Castillo, alongside four from Oruro.

The remaining dismissals included both coaching teams and their assistants. Blooming forward Cesar Menacho had already been dismissed earlier in the match for offensive language.

Vision360 reports that Castillo will submit his findings to the Bolivian Sports Disciplinary Tribunal for further review.

The melee left additional casualties, including a Blooming official who reportedly suffered a fractured cheekbone.

The brawl highlighted the tension as Oruro, needing only a single goal to force penalties, failed to progress to the semi-finals.
