Saudi Pro League: Troost-Ekong scores own goal as Neom edge Al Kholood 3-2

Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, endured another difficult outing on Thursday as his own goal played a part in Al Kholood’s 3–2 home defeat to Neom in the Saudi Arabia League.

The Nigerian defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net in the 32nd minute, handing the visitors a 2–1 lead.

It was Troost-Ekong’s seventh league appearance of the current campaign.

The setback leaves Al Kholood sitting ninth on the table with nine points after a disappointing run of results.

This is not the first time Troost-Ekong has suffered such misfortune this year. During the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein, the 30-year-old also scored an own goal in a 1–1 draw, a costly result that denied Nigeria an automatic qualification spot.

Nevertheless, Troost-Ekong and his teammates have another chance to redeem themselves next month when they battle Gabon in the African playoffs scheduled to take place in Morocco.
