A multiple-vehicle accident on Thursday caused heavy traffic gridlock around Kara Bridge, inward Mowe, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority in a statement shared on its official X handle, said the crash involved a truck and a container-laden trailer which caught fire, as well as two other trucks.
One of the vehicles was said to have spilled cartons of biscuits across the highway, while another crashed into the bridge barrier, causing its container to fall into the river below.
LASTMA confirmed that eight people sustained injuries in the incident, while emergency responders were deployed to the scene for rescue and recovery.
According to the agency, “There was a multiple road crash involving a truck and a container-laden trailer that went up in flames.
Another truck spilled its contents on the road, while another crashed into the barrier, causing its carrier to fall into the river. Eight casualties were recorded and recovery and evacuation efforts are ongoing.”
The accident resulted in significant traffic congestion stretching from the Kara Bridge area to Ogunnusi Road, leaving many motorists stranded for hours.
