President Bola Tinubu has dismissed the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, and approved a major shake-up in the leadership of the nation’s Armed Forces.
The development, announced on Friday through a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, comes as part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture.
According to the statement, General Olufemi Oluyede has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Musa. Other key changes include the appointment of Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as the new Chief of Naval Staff.
Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, however, retains his position as the Chief of Defence Intelligence.
President Tinubu commended the outgoing Defence Chief and other service heads for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” while urging the newly appointed officers to sustain professionalism and vigilance within the Armed Forces.
“The newly appointed Service Chiefs must justify the confidence reposed in them and further enhance the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” the President was quoted as saying.
The statement added that all appointments take immediate effect.
