The Ondo State Government has urged residents to remain calm following the circulation of a leaked security memo warning of a possible terrorist attack in parts of the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Idowu Ajanaku, confirmed that the government was aware of the memo, which originated from the State Security Services and was addressed to the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Akure.
Ajanaku explained that such intelligence reports are routine and part of ongoing security coordination among agencies.
“The leaked memo is part of regular intelligence reports that are routinely shared among security agencies and the government,” he said.
“These reports are a normal part of security operations aimed at identifying and preventing potential threats.”
He added that the reports often carry varying levels of threat assessment and are used by security operatives to strengthen joint operations and enhance vigilance.
According to the Commissioner, the state government and relevant security agencies have already taken necessary precautions to safeguard lives and property.
“The public can be assured that these reports are being acted upon by the government and relevant security agencies,” Ajanaku stated. “Necessary measures are being put in place to ensure the safety and security of residents.”
While calling on residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, Ajanaku urged the public not to panic.
“We appeal to all residents to remain calm and vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency,” he said. “Every measure is being taken to prevent any attack in Ondo State.”
He emphasized that Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa remains in close contact with security agencies, particularly in safeguarding border communities.
“The governor is in constant communication with security agencies and has taken several proactive steps to protect residents,” Ajanaku noted. “Our goal is to ensure Ondo State remains one of the safest states in the country.”
The government further appealed to citizens to go about their normal activities peacefully and avoid taking the law into their own hands.
“We urge residents to cooperate with security agencies and provide any useful information that can help prevent threats in any part of the state,” the statement added.
