The Kwara State Police Command has refuted viral social media reports alleging that a female police officer serving in the state was kidnapped and later killed.
The false reports, which circulated widely online, claimed that a female Inspector working as a prosecutor was abducted and her body later found in the Oloje area of Ilorin.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, described the claim as “entirely false and deeply distressing.”
She urged members of the public to disregard the report and avoid spreading misinformation that could cause panic among residents.
“The Command wishes to state unequivocally that this report is not only false but also misleading, with the intent to cause unnecessary fear in the state,” SP Ejire-Adeyemi said.
“There is no report of any female police officer missing, abducted, or killed in any division of the state. The story is completely fabricated,” she added.
She also clarified that there is no police division known as “Ogidi” in Kwara State, contrary to claims in the viral posts, describing it as a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
“We wish to make it clear that there is no division named Ogidi in Kwara State. The misinformation is a calculated effort to mislead unsuspecting members of the public and discredit the police,” Ejire-Adeyemi stated.
The spokesperson reaffirmed the Command’s commitment under the leadership of Commissioner of Police, CP Adekunbi Ojo, to maintaining public safety, peace, and transparency in its operations.
“The Kwara State Police Command remains steadfast in its duty to protect lives and property. We are working closely with other security agencies to sustain peace and ensure the safety of residents,” she assured.
Ejire-Adeyemi further cautioned media outlets and social media users against circulating unverified claims, warning that such actions could erode public trust and harm the state’s image.
“We urge residents and the media to rely solely on verified information from our official communication channels — our X handle (@kwara_ppro), Facebook page (Kwara State Police Command), and WhatsApp Channel,” she said.
She reiterated that the Command would not hesitate to take legal action against individuals or groups found to be intentionally spreading false information capable of inciting public unrest.
The police appealed to citizens to support efforts toward maintaining calm and to report any genuine security concerns through the Command’s emergency contacts or verified social media platforms.
