Confederation of African Football President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, has reaffirmed his confidence in Morocco’s readiness to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, despite the wave of anti-government protests currently sweeping across the country.
The North African nation is scheduled to stage the continental showpiece from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, with 24 teams expected to battle for glory.
In recent weeks, questions have been raised about Morocco’s priorities as protests intensify over what many citizens see as misplaced government focus, investing heavily in infrastructure for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which the country is co-hosting with Portugal and Spain, while ignoring pressing domestic issues.
Speaking at the CAF Congress in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday, Motsepe dispelled any doubts about Morocco’s preparedness and reaffirmed CAF’s full backing for the host nation.
“We (CAF) are absolutely confident the AFCON will go ahead as planned.
“Morocco is plan A, Morocco is plan B and Morocco is plan C.
“CAF will co-operate and work with the government and all the citizens of Morocco to host the most successful AFCON in history.”
